"Looking back on the events of the last... nine.. no, eight years of my life, I feel rather aggravated. But before I get to that, maybe I should start at the very beginning. My full name is Hermione Jean Granger, and I was born on September 19th, 1994. That makes me 18 years old, going on nineteen. If you look back at my achievements, I should be graduated from Hogwarts already. However, with new leadership in the Wizarding World come new rules. I was born to two muggle parents, Dianne and Jeffery Granger, which technically makes me a, dare I say it, mudblood if you asked any pureblood wizard or witch today. Of course how many claim they are is probably inaccurate.
My two best friends in the entire world are Harry James Potter and Ronald Bilius Weasly... (she laughs) Of course he just goes by Ron. Ronald disturbs him, and Bilius will result in sure death (she laughs again). I have a cat named Crookshanks, which up until... 3 years ago, or more, was the one single enemy of Ron. Of course that was because Crookshanks knew that his rat was a horrible monster in disguise. It just took us a while to figure that out. I was sorted into Gryffindor, but the blasted Sorting Hat thought he should think about Ravenclaw. Looking back on it as a child, I was proud of the chance of Ravenclaw. But today, I think I would be very disappointed by that turn of events. Life without Gryffindor... well I certainly wouldn't be who I am today.
The first time I ever really spent longer than an hour with Ron and Harry would be.... the night of Halloween. I was upset about something Ron had said... about me being crazy, or something... and as I was exiting the bathroom, I came face to face with a troll. Fortunately, this news had already been spread to the other students and staff, and Harry and Ron were on their way. They actually saved me, and Ron actually did the levitation charm correctly. It's all in the enunciation. If you get that wrong, the whole charm is wrong. From that day on, we were kind of.... awkward, not meant to be, friends. But as time went on, it turned out it was definitely fate. That same year we figured that Snape was the bad guy, trying to get the Sorcerer's Stone made by Nicholas Flammel.
When we started investigating, of sorts, we realized it wasn't Snape who was trying to steal it. He was trying to save it. Turns out, if you ask Harry for the whole story, the stuttering professor named Quirrel had Voldemort attached to the back of his head... and he tried to kill Harry. Well technically he tried to kill us all! We had to dodge a three headed dog named Fluffy and the Devil's Snare, AND a game of Wizard's Chess to even get that far. Bloody death traps. Oh dear God, I'm starting to sound like Ronald.
Moving on... To sum up the next few years of my life at Hogwarts, I got petrified by a basilisk that lurked in the Chamber of Secrets created by Salazar Slytherin. I had to use a bloody time turner during my third year to get to all of my classes, and it turns out it helped us save both a Hippogriff, a teacher who was a werewolf, and Harry's Godfather in the same night. In my fourth year, I met Victor Krum... and that's a story all in itself. We hosted the Triwizard Tournament that year, and I was his date for most of the events. Of course, Harry shares now that Ron didn't like that bit at all. Cedric Diggory died that year... that's probably the worst thing. Well that and Voldemort came back from the dead.
Come to think of it, I founded S.P.E.W that year too... It's a organization to help house elves get better treatment.... You probably don't even want me to get started on that. I'm learning to control my impulsive speeches about things that... people just don't really care about. Well, not everyone... but more than none. Enough of that... My fifth year was when things started getting rocky. We had some horrible staff changes that year, summed up... Dolores Umbridge. That woman, in her puffy pink, and her horribly blotted face... she was a toad, and she was aweful. I will never say I hated her... but she was very close. We formed Dumbledor's Army that year to combat her... since we didn't need to know anything about defending ourselves, we did it ourselves. Harry was amazing that year... but our joy was short lived.
Snape... well it turns out, he was actually a good guy. Of course we didn't know that until it was too late. He killed Dumbledor, but it was the only way. Upon reading his will, we found that out. After Dumbledor died, we really had no reason to stay. But he'd given us hope by telling us how to defeat Voldemort. Horcruxes are aweful things. You have to kill innocent people to be able to divide your soul and store it into random objects. It prolongs life, basically grants immortality, but by god it does some awesome and horrible things to a person. Voldemort didn't even look human... by his final horcrux. Originally, Harry, Ron, and I set out on the journey to destroy them one by one. But it was hard... and so long.
It felt like decades. The final horcrux was that damn snake, Nagini. He charmed the damn snake. It's a dirty thing to do, right? By the time the fight with all of the Death Eater's and Voldemort was over... half of Hogwart's was destroyed. So many had died... Fred, Tonks, Lupin, even poor Colin Creevey. Ron was devastated, but why wouldn't he be. His brother was gone. Not that it makes up for all of the horror of that night, but it's also the night Ron and I kissed. I never realized how much I loved him... until that moment in the Chamber of Secrets.
It took a long time for the staff to clean the school back up and get things back into order. We'd almost given up on getting the school back. But by then, we had figured out other plans to start doing to make a life for ourselves. Then we started getting letters. It's ridiculous that we have to return - haven't we proven ourselves as wizards and witches already? Everyone who was there, even years younger, should be rewarded! But instead, we get another year. I am thankful I get one more year to further my education, and see my friends again... and Ron. I wonder if he still feels the same. I've only seen him twice this summer, and only three other times before that. I don't know how much longer I can go without him.
I'm all packed... Around forty books... two cases of clothes, which is mostly what I own now. My other clothes were so tattered and torn. I've gotten no word on who's coming back though. Laws and rules are really rather easy to break... I'm crossing my fingers now, and headed to the platform."

The weather was bleak, at best. The sun wasn't really shining, but more like a smear of bright light behind heavy clouds. A light sprinkle of rain dotted the windshield of the car as her father drove her to the train station. She'd not made this trip in over two years now. It seemed strange, but like something new and promising was coming. With a heavy sigh, Hermione pressed her forehead against the window, which was cool against her skin.
The drive across London was shorter than others, so she didn't have much time to think. The same process ran through her mind... Unload the bags and cases. Kiss her mom, then her father. Finally, she had to arrange things on a trolley, and aim it at the certain wall when no muggle eyes were watching. When all of this was done, she tossed one more look around. No one. She didn't see anyone she knew. Just several young kids, probably first years... She gave a soft huff against the hair over her face and blew the hair from her eyes. "It's time..." Pushing off, she started her run, but was jerked back.
A soft hand had her arm, and it led up to a strong arm, and a broad set of shoulders. Shaggy dark hair crowned the collar, and framed the face donning a small lightning shaped scar. "HARRY!" Slinging herself at him, she wrapped him up tightly in a hug, squealing. "Oh, it feels like I haven't seen you in ages. I'm so glad you're here." He offered her a grin, and shrugged. "Well you know... we couldn't let you come alone..." With a tilt of her head, her brow furrowed in a frown. "We?" A flash of red hair got her attention. "Well, yeah. You think I was gonna let you go and have all the fun alone? Bloody hell, Hermione. You should know better... And by the way, you look amazing..." Wrapping her arms around his neck as his encircled her waist, she sighed, breathing in his cologne. "Oh, Ron... how I've missed you..."
